When the temperatures stay at a reasonable level during a snow storm one of my favorite past times is to wrap up against the frigid temps and head out for a walk. Whether in the woods or just down my street there is something truly peaceful about the silence that sets in during a significant snow fall. Your feet no longer make a sound on the ground below you, people have headed off the streets to the comforts of their warms homes and most of the critters too. For a moment I indulge in the idea that there are no computers, no cellphones and that suddenly we have been launched back to a simpler time when you could find these moments of pure tranquility more often without the constant hum of electricity in the air. A week ago today those of us here in Flagstaff started to dig out from under Mother Nature's blanket of 31 inches of snow and as I look around today most of that sparkling, white remains. Though the edges of everything are looking grungy and dirty that mysterious beauty snow seems to bring to everything remains. Leave it to Mother Nature to do something about the ratty edges that have moved into her landscape painting as the forecast calls for a bit of snow this weekend. I am hoping that I once again get to enjoy a walk in the woods to enjoy the silence.
