The perfect time of year to go get lost for a bit, but always have your escape route planned!

So my best friend might kill me for this post, but after wandering around on the grid yesterday and getting lost, I find myself thinking of her and her adventures into the wilderness alone.  Now, if you have ever had a chance to witness a conversation between the two of us, or if you have read about any of our adventures, then you know the two of us can get into some interesting predicaments together and when apart, hers have a tendency to get much more off the beaten path.  This past Sunday she set off, for the second time in the last couple of months, to tackle the largest loop on the San Francisco peaks which climbs several thousand feet in elevation, covers about 30 miles, which is kind of funny, when you think about the fact, she thought it was only 20.  But being Kelly, she of course sets off on these treks all by herself with very little food, plenty of water she rarely drinks and of course a couple pairs of socks (since we watched the snow fall on the top of the mountain the night before), her phone with navigation and her rather adventurous spirit.  Now I mentioned this was the second time, and I probably should say the socks were added after the first trip since she didn't expect to be in thigh high deep snow as she attempted to stay on trail, hopping log to log hoping she was heading in the correct direction, since the only other tracks that day had turned around and gone back several miles before the snow actually got deep on the backside of the mountain.  I remember the sound of her teeth chattering when she reached the 3/4 mark the first time she attempted the trail, and I told her to stay put so I could come and get her, since at least she was some place I could FIND her at this point.  Did I mention my boyfriend and I had been worrying about her for hours and trying to call since she was hours later than expected?  Needless to say, when she told us this past Saturday that she was going to hike the mountain, and finish it this time, we were a little doubtful, but they made plans to meet at the lower trail head so he could do the last 7 miles, as first calculated, with her and then come back to the house for a BBQ.  She happens to go up the mountain like a Billy Goat and sometimes skips or runs down the trails, so when it was starting to get later into the afternoon we began to wonder what had happened this time, and at first the jokes start to come, and then true worry starts to set in.  When my phone went off around 2:30pm with her saying "Hi," and I noticed it was actually sent a couple hours before I figured she had made it to where they were supposed to meet and we just hadn't gotten her message from the top of the mountain.  Then the text came in saying, "My knee went out, just got to the trail head."  So as she argued back and forth that she was "fine" I finished up what I was doing, texted the boyfriend, who responded with a simple "LOL" and headed off to get her hoping it was just a bit of a tweeked knee, not a major injury.  If she wasn't in as good of shape as she is, it probably would have been more of an issue, or if she hadn't had an exit plan.  So the moral to the story is this, go ahead and forge your path off into the wilderness but make sure you have an idea of how to get home, or at least a back up plan, like a best friend who happens to be ready to come get you no matter where you have run off to this time!

Not quite sure what has me reminiscing today, but I have been thinking about the years I spent traveling back and forth between Phoenix and Huntington Beach, California back in the mid-90's.  I met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of fun, though there was a lot of pain in my life.  After all these years I can look back fondly, instead of seeing only the painful things, and it's a lot like looking at old photographs; the memory remains but the raw emotions have now faded leaving only a dusty imprint on my soul.  For some people, this never seems to happen, and I wish there was a magic switch to flip to reveal to them the lessons they learned instead of them becoming a slave to the pain of the past.  But I guess that is part of what makes us all so very different from each other, and I wouldn't change that for the world.  Since I seem to communicate better through music than I do verbally, at time, I recently shared a song with my son that touched on this exact topic and decided to use it today for my post so I could share this sentiment with all of you.  Every moment of your life, no matter how hard it may be, is just a passing moment.  When things seem a bit too rough, and you have lost even a pinpoint of light at the end of the tunnel, remind yourself that this too shall pass, and that sun will rise again tomorrow bringing with it a whole new light and new perspective.  These days will go by just like those magical moments you wished would never end, but the photographs in your mind will always take you back, if you want to look.

For many years now I have firmly believed that love is an ever elusive creature, hard to catch and even harder to keep.  Once upon a time I had my fairy tale wedding with lofty dreams of a beautiful forever that was crushed by the darkness of abuse.  Though I have been in a couple of relationships since, I never got married again and in some ways I don't think I ever will, in the traditional sense of the word.  I hate the fact that the government tells me I have to have a piece of paper to declare my love for someone, and that others are denied the same right.  Love is something to be celebrated, not hidden; to stand in front of your friends, family and what ever higher power you embrace is the purest and truest way to show your love.  No piece of paper can ever take the place of a true celebration of love, no matter what the government tells people.

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you know about the recent attacks in Florida and other places in the country at LGBT events, which in reality have been attacks on love.  I sit in front of my computer and read the stories and events and I am horrified that in this advanced society we live in, that people are still persecuted simply for the fact they love someone of the same sex.  In my opinion, we have much bigger problems in this country to be worried about than love.  Because in the end that is what all this boils down to, the fact that love is love, no matter what form it comes in.  If you are lucky enough in this lifetime to find love, as long as it isn't with children or animals ( I do draw SOME lines people!), then celebrate it and enjoy the precious gift you have been given.  The Pulse Charity Event runs through the 12th of the month and all proceeds go to Equality Florida to support the victims and families of the Orlando shooting.  Hurry on over to the event today, you won't be disappointed and you will get a chance to feel good about spending a few Linden as well!

Classic styling with a modern twist from Amarelo Manga

Sensual beauty in black and white

I love color, as I think you can tell by looking at my blog, but sometimes a photo catches my eye as I take it and I wonder what it would look like in black and white.  It is a very rare occasion that I end up posting one of these photos as they just don't seem to capture what I am looking for.  As I put together this ensemble the other night I was reminded of an old photo I saw of Mae West back in her prime in a very similar ensemble, and I KNEW this post had to be in black and white.  This gorgeous kimono can be picked up at the current round of Collabor88 and comes in several color combinations, with the red and black featured here, as it looks the best in black and white.  The jewelry and hair are also current exclusives to the event so if you haven't had a chance to stop by you really should, this round is quite fun and provocative, one of my favorite combinations, after all it is very close to beautiful but deadly!

A beautiful woman is something many take for granted as being vapid and easily manipulated, which makes her in all reality, incredibly dangerous.  But a beautiful and intelligent woman is probably the most dangerous creature on earth, male or female, you won't ever see her coming.  She ends up with the house, the money, and the car right before she disappears into thin air, leaving you aching and wondering how you could be so dumb.  But don't worry, you won't be the first or the last of her victims so at least you might find someone to drown your sorrows with because this is the kind of woman who will never get caught!

Something caught my eye and jumped into my closet again!

Something in my chemistry always calls me back to the sea

With the holidays fading into the background as the new year starts I can feel the weight of the last year lifting as hope grows for the future.  Some stressors always follow us into the new year and this one is no exception.  I have always found my peace either in the mountains or on the shore of the nearest ocean which is probably why I make the mountains of Arizona my home.  If the ocean's call is too strong then I can simply jump in my car and be wiggling my toes in the sands of Mexico or California, depending on which way I headed, in just a few hours.  The bitter cold and foot of snow has me longing to stick my toes in the sand of a sun warmed beach with my eyes closed, simply breathing with the waves.  So when I unpacked my goodies from EvelineIntheBox for Alchemy I was excited that I could get to,at least virtually, spend some time at the beach at Baja Cove.  Dressed for a perfect vacation in the Sun on some distant shore I let my imagination wander and for a little while I forgot about all the snow outside and the chill in my bones.

I am begrudgingly a little behind in my blogging for AnaMarkova Designs, even though I try and get out at least two posts a month to show off her releases, but it just doesn't seem to be enough!  If you have been a fan then make sure to remember that AnaMarkova releases weekly so the few items I get to show off to you are really only a tiny peek into the gorgeous creations added to the store much more often than I could possibly blog!  The Toyah Sweater Dress is a perfect example of something you don't want to miss out on!  This stunning, body draping dress comes in several colors with matching shoes, with each piece wonderfully textured with an incredible attention to detail.  So make sure you head by Designer Showcase and the store to pick up the latest and greatest from AnaMarkova Designs!

Monday's are an unusual day for me, as they really are just like any other day.  I rarely sleep in late and I often do the same things on the weekends as I do during the week, so really the only change for me is having to deal with traffic when Monday morning rolls around.  I know that this is probably a luxury only those of us who are home all the time have to deal with, but I have to say I don't miss the hassle that perpetually goes with Monday mornings.  However, I say this at 3:28 in the afternoon and I haven't managed to get out this post!  The photo has been done for almost two days now and yet, here I sit.  So I guess you could say, today, this Monday, I am having a start of the week imaginative slump.  Which is very odd since this ensemble has put me in such a whimsical mood, yet nothing wants to jump out of my head and onto the page!  So while I deal with my Monday let's talk about AnaMarkova Designs for a moment.  The gorgeous designs have been popping up all over the grid this Summer and perfect for the "homey" feel of Fall, an amazing new collection has been released in the store featuring a stunning Autumn palette, shape draping designs and exquisite attention to detail all at affordable prices to you!  After all being chic doesn't have to cost a fortune.

Lost in the shadows

For the last few months I have been constantly playing catch-up and I feel like I will never be able to dig out from under this pile that has created itself around me.  But with my nose to the grindstone I am slowly but surely trying to get as much done as I can before I head off for a few days.  The end of the month is just around the corner and with it the end of Summer.  Autumn has crept into the corners and shadows of the high mountain country of Arizona and the fans aren't on high anymore in the windows and there is a very familiar chill in the air before the sun rises.  As I went out wandering today I stumbled into this fabulous brick building over at Indie Heights where the shadows and lights reminded me of the fading light of Summer.  Just in time for those last rays of August NoName brings us all this magnificent new ensemble at the store.  Bunny consists of top, bra and micro mini all with a HUD to change all of the details on the outfit.

"All the roads we have to walk are winding"

For some strange reason this day ran away from me and I honestly can't tell you where it went.  Though I did get a bunch of work done so I can relax my back a bit more this week.  My nerves are shot after all these weeks of pain and it was confirmed on Friday that I will not be seeing a Surgeon until the 16th of September.  Needless to say the love and support of my friends and family, online and offline, is greatly appreciated and needed right now.  I took a stroll yesterday over to Vivaldi, as it always seems to brighten my spirits.  Now I know the more I talk about the location the more crowded it will become and I will no longer have that little oasis to myself and well of course, the land owners, but I am more than willing to share!  Another round of Anybody opened earlier this month and Alaskametro once again brings fantastic exclusives to the event in the form of three stunning new swimsuits, including the Giselle II featured here.

As always, when relaxing or well, when breathing, music always manages to push itself to the forefront of my mind and today, a certain one seems to be on repeat.  I am not a fan of remakes, usually, but the Pretty Reckless's Taylor Momsen has an amazing voice and I love pretty much everything she does, including a cover of one of my all time favorite songs, Wonderwall.  I hope you enjoy and remember to always stay true to your style and make today's fashion trends work for you!

Beautiful and afraid of nothing, as though I had wings

For those of you who know my story, you know that life has given me my fair share of curve balls along the way and that I seem to take everything pretty much in stride, with just a few hiccups along the way.  To those on the outside looking in I seem to handle everything that comes my way and continue to smile and attempt to make people laugh.  But for those who are closest to the Jester in her court know that there are cracks in the facade for most of the time the only thing people see is a mask.  When the lights go down at the end of the day and the house grows quiet, the masks come off and what is revealed is often a worn out, tearful woman in incredible pain who has very few moments to spend just with herself.  When the pain cycle has gotten out of control I have a bit of mania that kicks in and so I end up not being able to sleep, which is really the only break I get from the pain.  So it becomes a cycle and I feel at war with my own body every hour of every day.  Over the years, one of the ways I find to get lost is to read.  And I have been told I "consume" not read, which is probably a pretty accurate description of how I read when I am in need of an escape.  It has been so long since I first picked up a collection of poems from Mary Oliver that I forget there was a time in my life where her books and quotes didn't live in my homes.  I am known to quote her often and I am proud to have introduced her to so many people over the decades.  Lately, the court Jester/ Nurse Nightengale hasn't been feeling so perky and to be honest, my mood is pretty low.  I am still up at 4 a.m. (now 5 am as I finish this post) with no sleep in sight soon, breakfast and getting Jesse off to school will happen in just a few hours and there is a part of me wishing I wasn't me at the moment.  It is one of those days that the darkness has crept in and I long for a light revealing an answer to relief.  This, may take some time, and as I was sitting and reading a phrase, quote, stanza, if you like, started tumbling its way out of the recesses of my brain and into consciousness.

For a moment, I want the daily struggles to just take a coffee break and let me return to my carefree life I had once upon a time, where every movement wasn't considered and options weighed before committing to the simplest of tasks.  But this cocoon I live in, I am firmly convinced that someday from my chrysalis I will struggle and crawl, emerging to greet the light as my beautiful, unique wings unfurl and carry me far away to a new life, free from pain, my constant companion, never my friend.  I find, taking time to be with yourself, to love yourself, to know yourself is often the quickest path to discovering your wings, and as I sat tonight, the moment was just right, and the lighting just perfect for a glimpse inside my cocoon.

"Seeking shelter like a spark in the rain"

Life is not easy or smooth sailing and sometimes we get blindsided by health issues, financial crises, random losses etc.  So many people struggle in silence and don't share what they are going through only causing themselves more isolation with little relief from the stress of the issue at hand.  And then there are those, who show their strength by sharing their struggles and revealing themselves even when it is the hardest thing for them to do.  To make yourself open and vulnerable is to trust those around you, and to have faith in the good in humanity.  Recently a well known and loved creator, Lexi Zelin discovered she had Cancer at a very young age, and as a wife, mother, provider, designer she reached out to everyone letting them know her situation and the struggles she was going through.  The amazing community on Second Life has rallied together and since the end of July The Lexi Project's doors have been opened featuring exclusive designs from tons of creators with all proceeds going to Lexi, to assist with her ongoing medical treatment.  This amazing dress is from HEYDRA and is only available at the event and remember 100% of your purchase goes directly to Lexi Zelin, which means you get a fantastic dress AND you get to do a little good in this world.

The attention to detail and textures are truly amazing on this dress and the ass you get is truly bootilicious and fit perfectly with my Maitreya body, which always makes me happy.  I had fun putting this ensemble together because this dress fits my style quite nicely.  The form fitting lines of the dress are very classic with modern detailing at the bodice leading to its eclectic feel, which after all is the true definition of bohemian, combining textures, fabrics and patterns in an artsy kind of way.  

Long before "Harry Potter" you could say I had a bit of a catch phrase I was known for, "always in all ways," and it means many different things to me but one of them applies in regards to The Lexi Project.  We are all energy condensed into solid form in a most magical way.  Chemistry between people can be explained by the idea that some energies flow together, while some repel.  That unknown, unexplained connection you find with people you barely know can be chalked up to your energies wanting to share space with each other.  Since I came to Second Life I have discovered a synergy among people and a true sense of community, another exchange of energies.  It is perpetual, and ever growing as more people interact and share the same space, creating our own "always", where the energy of creativity and positive thoughts collide.  I truly believe in the power of our minds and that our energy pooled together can do magical things.  Yes, here is another time someone is going to mutter "hippie" under their breath and probably one of those times they wouldn't be that far off.  I believe a chorus of voices can raise anyone to greater heights.  So when I found this tattoo last month at The Wizarding Fair I just HAD to have it, and it has become a daily part of my wardrobe.  Check the store as the event has ended, and I am not sure if it has been moved into the main inventory at this point.  Head on over to The Lexi Project before it ends on the 9th and shop til you drop for an amazing cause!

Like a fine wine....getting better with age

So everyone who has been following along knows I am over 40, but for anyone new, I turned 43 in April, and though I don't think I look fantastic for my age, I am not one to hide it either.  My body acts like it is a lot older and with everything I have been through, I do look pretty good for that, at least in my opinion.  Over the years I have dated younger men and the most common comment among them is that women age like a fine wine, and just get better with age.  Now I am not one to analyze the younger/older relationships as I honestly believe that if you can find love in this world, as long as it isn't with children or animals, that you are blessed.  It is tough no matter who you are anymore and if you find a soul connection with someone, a difference of fifteen or twenty years shouldn't make a difference, as long as the people involved are ready to handle all the crap they are going to get.  Trust me when I say there will always be a ton of it, from younger, older, same age... everyone will have an opinion.  It has been a very long time since I dated someone younger in my real life, but I have dated younger men pretty much exclusively online since 2008.  Call me vain, whatever, but I do enjoy the idea of being attractive to men at least ten years younger than I am.  It gives a nice little boost to the ego, which I think anyone needs from time to time.

As you all can tell I have been enjoying the discovery that I can use "advanced lighting" up on my little platform and I can't explain how happy this makes me.  It may have taken literally 4 hours to take 6 pictures, but it's worth it!  At least I hope so!  I know here soon that I won't be taking that much time, because I won't need to see ALL the windlights in "advanced."  I feel a bit like a kid in a candy store!  So many amazing things you can do with just a click of a different windlight.  I have noticed however, that I have to be careful because occasionally things get all jagged again even though I have the filters on to keep that from happening.  I have decided this is my pc's way of letting me know it's a bit tired and that it needs a break, so I listen and wander off for awhile so the hamsters can relax and have a smoke break or whatever.  So any of you out there frustrated with your p.o.s. computers and their failing graphics. then shoot me a note inworld (JadedPanther Resident) or find me on Facebook (Jade Samsara) and I will share with you the tricks I have discovered along the way.  I am by no means a photo expert nor do I take the best pictures, but over the last year and a half I have found ways to utilize what I have to the best of its ability.  I hope you are enjoying your weekend and now I am off to go play around with some windlights and furniture!!
