A night with Scheherazade

The last few days have been pretty hard on me with lots of running around and in and out of the car which leads to more pain, and in turn I end up exhausted and unable to sit up at the computer for very long.  When this hits me I find it very difficult to write anything inspired.  Instead I end up rambling on about this or that with no direction.  I finally was able to sit and take pics of this gorgeous ensemble from Scandal Fashions for Apply Me and just a few words about it didn't seem to be enough.  But I had the energy, so off I went to find something to spark my creativity.  Often times I go over to Image Essentials and wander around and hit the pose/prop studios to get my mind going, but an idea had started to swirl in my head.  At some point I had to go downstairs for something and as I was passing my bookshelf in my office, a title seemed to almost leap out at me and I had my inspiration....the Dance of the Seven Veils and Scheherazade.  What book, you may ask, well what else could it be other than Tom Robbins "Skinny Legs and All."  I am an avid fan and if you haven't read any of his books, I wouldn't suggest starting with this one as it happens to be a little far out there for most, but still it's an awesome novel!  Imagine if you will a scene, of a beautiful woman with plenty of curves, adorned with seven distinct veils and that as she seductively removes each veil a new level or a new path to YOUR happiness is revealed.  How far would you let her go?  How far would you watch?  Do we need to know that much about ourselves; or to reveal that much?  Or in the end, do we only truly learn when completely bare, with our souls naked?  Come with me and spend a night in the company of Scheherazade and her seven veils, as you can tell, we have already peeled away a few layers, but obviously there are many to go.

"All the roads we have to walk are winding"

For some strange reason this day ran away from me and I honestly can't tell you where it went.  Though I did get a bunch of work done so I can relax my back a bit more this week.  My nerves are shot after all these weeks of pain and it was confirmed on Friday that I will not be seeing a Surgeon until the 16th of September.  Needless to say the love and support of my friends and family, online and offline, is greatly appreciated and needed right now.  I took a stroll yesterday over to Vivaldi, as it always seems to brighten my spirits.  Now I know the more I talk about the location the more crowded it will become and I will no longer have that little oasis to myself and well of course, the land owners, but I am more than willing to share!  Another round of Anybody opened earlier this month and Alaskametro once again brings fantastic exclusives to the event in the form of three stunning new swimsuits, including the Giselle II featured here.

I have been up at the computer the last few days more than I have been in awhile and my back and neck are letting me know today which means I am a little short for words today.  But I have noticed lately that couples just don't seem to talk to each other like they should, or like they used to.  The common day banter has become less respectful and the term "my bitch" is used so very much and it really does bother me.  I wonder if they talk to their Mom's like that, or what they would say if someone spoke to their daughter the way they talk to the women they love.  So today I thought I would share a song that is dear to my heart and one my son knows very well too.  Hopefully that means I won't have to kick him for being disrespectful in the way he addresses the women in his life as he gets older.  I also wanted to remind everyone that Apply Me only has 5 days left for you to run over and grab new group gifts and some of the hottest pieces on the grid for all your mesh needs, including this wonderful new creation from Xxxstasi.

As everyone knows I haven't been feeling well lately and some days it takes everything I have, and a few pain pills to even sit at the computer; and that I am known as the melancholy baby.  Put those two things together today and I am reflecting a lot.  Life is never easy.  Granted some people don't have to deal with the tragedies or issues others do, but it still isn't a walk in the park.  Life is about making choices, and you don't have one or two a day, every single thing you do is a choice.  A long time ago, I chose to LIVE and enjoy this life I was given.  To quote my favorite poet, Mary Oliver, "tell me what it is you plan to do with your one, wild and precious life?"  I firmly believe you have ONE chance to do what you want in this life and make it YOURS!  You can choose to let life bring you down.  You can choose to be angry and walk around trying to find someone to blame, or you can just accept that life is difficult and that you will have to deal with that as long as you live.  I have lived one hundred lives, according to some of my friends as I always wanted to do something new; change scenery and continue to learn!  I have had several careers and when I first got sick, I was angry because all the "living" I enjoyed came to a screeching halt.  Everything I had known and built was gone and I stayed in bed for three years feeling sorry for myself.  But that desire to do, see, be everything kept tugging at me.  So I got out of bed and began to teach myself about computers, which I had never used.  And I found a new life for myself in a virtual world.  A new career, friends, a whole new life that I never even knew existed.  If I hadn't felt so strongly about learning and about truly living, I seriously doubt I would have made it out of bed, and probably would still be there today.  Life can be a "heavy cross" to carry alone, so remember often times it's the people around us who keep us back or spur us forward.  Choose your friends wisely and check to see if they too believe in LIVING and not in letting "life" get in the way!

Sometime last year when my friends got me addicted to Spotify I was listening to some station or other and suddenly this amazing voice came out of my speakers and I was hooked!  One of those voices that has true power and when I popped to youtube to check the group out a bit, I was more surprised by the fact that live she sounds the same!  Which having spent years singing I am VERY critical of artists and if they sound like crap you can be sure I will never listen again.  It drives me crazy that so many people are becoming famous with an auto-tuning mic strapped to their mouths.  But every so often you discover true artists and for me I will take the time to listen to a few tunes and most likely insert them into rotation on my playlists.  Being a tad cheeky I inserted a few quotes today from the song currently on replay and hopefully tease you into hitting play, trust me you won't be disappointed.  Make the CHOICE!!!  Today, I choose to be anything and everything I want to be!

Beautiful and afraid of nothing, as though I had wings

For those of you who know my story, you know that life has given me my fair share of curve balls along the way and that I seem to take everything pretty much in stride, with just a few hiccups along the way.  To those on the outside looking in I seem to handle everything that comes my way and continue to smile and attempt to make people laugh.  But for those who are closest to the Jester in her court know that there are cracks in the facade for most of the time the only thing people see is a mask.  When the lights go down at the end of the day and the house grows quiet, the masks come off and what is revealed is often a worn out, tearful woman in incredible pain who has very few moments to spend just with herself.  When the pain cycle has gotten out of control I have a bit of mania that kicks in and so I end up not being able to sleep, which is really the only break I get from the pain.  So it becomes a cycle and I feel at war with my own body every hour of every day.  Over the years, one of the ways I find to get lost is to read.  And I have been told I "consume" not read, which is probably a pretty accurate description of how I read when I am in need of an escape.  It has been so long since I first picked up a collection of poems from Mary Oliver that I forget there was a time in my life where her books and quotes didn't live in my homes.  I am known to quote her often and I am proud to have introduced her to so many people over the decades.  Lately, the court Jester/ Nurse Nightengale hasn't been feeling so perky and to be honest, my mood is pretty low.  I am still up at 4 a.m. (now 5 am as I finish this post) with no sleep in sight soon, breakfast and getting Jesse off to school will happen in just a few hours and there is a part of me wishing I wasn't me at the moment.  It is one of those days that the darkness has crept in and I long for a light revealing an answer to relief.  This, may take some time, and as I was sitting and reading a phrase, quote, stanza, if you like, started tumbling its way out of the recesses of my brain and into consciousness.

For a moment, I want the daily struggles to just take a coffee break and let me return to my carefree life I had once upon a time, where every movement wasn't considered and options weighed before committing to the simplest of tasks.  But this cocoon I live in, I am firmly convinced that someday from my chrysalis I will struggle and crawl, emerging to greet the light as my beautiful, unique wings unfurl and carry me far away to a new life, free from pain, my constant companion, never my friend.  I find, taking time to be with yourself, to love yourself, to know yourself is often the quickest path to discovering your wings, and as I sat tonight, the moment was just right, and the lighting just perfect for a glimpse inside my cocoon.

A Tempting Classic

I am starting to notice as I get older, my choices for gowns tend towards the classic style versus the avante garde of my youth.  I think that is more a sign of maturity for me than a change in my over all style, as the choices still are bold in comparison to others.  The Apply Me event has been up and running for a couple of days now and I just need to gush for a moment.  This is the first round of this event from Solaris and so far the results have been outstanding.  I am literally buried in boxes and the offerings are truly fantastic.  No matter what mesh body you use, or mesh add-ons you are sure to find exactly what you have been needing at Apply Me, including this stunning new gown from Cherished Creations.

Have to love these Summer nights

Being a child of the 70's and 80's I, like many of those from my era, have a tiny piece of my heart tied up in the movie "Grease."  My first crush was on Danny Zuko and I dreamed of being Sandy, in both good girl and bad girl forms.  Every word to every song is permanently engraved on my brain and you can bet I watch it at least a couple times of year, especially when down, for it will always bring me up.  I remember strutting around the living room in my Mom's "Candie's" heels and my black, shiny dance pants pretending to be Sandy while trying on my Mom's different wigs.  I had quite an imagination and had dreams of being a rockstar some day, so you can bet I kept my family quite entertained through the years.  But one song stands out for me more than the others, and if you do a search of top Summer songs, "Summer Nights" will always be in the list.  Today when I unpacked some more goodies from Apply Me I got all excited and suddenly that song started skipping it's way through my brain and I must confess, I had to jump onto youtube and listen to the soundtrack.  So off to the beach I went, bebopping my way through pics to show off this adorable new outfit from Zoom.

This year marks the 10th year of The Hair Fair, a wonderful charity event to benefit Wigs for Kids.  Every creator have their hairs clearly marked with the percentage donated to charity as well as there are gifts in almost every booth for the anniversary.  I strongly believe in this event and the amazing community we have on Second Life that enables us to all participate and donate to a very worthy cause.  Through out the event you will find kiosks where you can just donate without having to purchase any of the hairs, which I highly encourage if you are just going to jump around and grab the gifts.  My pocketbook is a little empty this month, but every cent counts in an event such as this, so I grabbed 5k in Linden and headed on over.  I walked out with a lighter purse, happy heart and my karma meter reading a bit higher.
