If my friends and family were asked to write down quotes from me, I have a feeling every one of them would write, "just breathe," since it happens to be my mantra. For many years I performed on stage with terrible stage fright, that at times made me almost immobile, and someone I used to know said that to me once and I realized that in the pause that comes with taking a deep breath, the nerves calm and the brain works a tad bit better than it did before. With everything going on in my personal life at the moment, I keep reminding those around me to just breathe, more for me than for them I'm sure, but either way it works! Even though I am not missing anyone and my relationship is going fabulously, I still find myself drawn to a certain song by Melissa Etheridge, simply because it reminds me to breathe and that everything will be fine in the end. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that it is the little things that matter the most

I am reminded this weekend that people concentrate so much on the big things, that they don't realize that it is truly the little things that count the most.  A moment caught between lovers where they simply get lost in each others eyes; simple words from your child that show appreciation; being able to hold the hand of the one you love in silence because words have failed you; laughing until you cry; a simple, short conversation with your parent(s) letting them know you apologize for being an ass as a teenager as you watch your kids do the same things.  It isn't about the big present, or how much money you can spend, it is about showing those around you how much you care through the tiniest of gifts, through your words or through actions as often as you can.  As I head into yet another surgery on Tuesday I feel blessed to have my friends and family around me, and sometimes I can only reach out a hand and squeeze it, or offer a smile or a simple "thank you" because the spoken word fails me often.  Do you concentrate too much on the grand gestures and too little time seeing the bigger meaning in the little things?  Slow down and take a look around and realize that the small things are what is important when it comes to showing appreciation to those around you, and people will learn from you to recognize those things more in their own daily lives.

Dreaming of an Indian Summer

For those of you who follow my blog on a regular basis, you know that Fall came early to the mountains of northern Arizona, and unfortunately that trend continued through all of September and as the first week of October comes to a close, the trees have almost all turned and lost their leaves and the mountain is no longer washed in a sea of crimson, yellow and orange.  Instead, the peaks have been dotted with snow already and the landscape is starting to look like it was painted in a palette of dull browns and grays.  The past few nights have found the temperatures diving into the 20's which has led to a couple of fires in the wood stove to keep the chill from creeping in through the cracks.  Needless to say I am still hoping for a mid-October warm up, a bit of an Indian Summer to enjoy before Winter sets in up here in the high country.  With a sweatshirt and jeans on I was very ready to don this fantastic new ensemble from Petit Chat and at least pretend for a while the temperatures weren't in the 50's and 60's.

Keep watching, I'm still working on my masterpiece!

I have a little story to share with you all about an absolutely wonderful experience I have had on flickr recently.  As bloggers and photographers we constantly strive to be better and to learn new tricks and to gain more and more knowledge as we grow.  Part of this development is to be accepted into groups that require an invitation, which I have often found to be incredibly daunting, as I am rather shy until you get to know me.  So that move of putting myself out there isn't something I often do.  Recently I took a leap, applying for a group, that I honestly didn't think I was ready to be a part of, so when the rejection notice came via flickr I was in no way upset.  It just marked another step in my journey and proved I was right about the skill level I had achieved with my photos to this point.  What came as a surprise, was the message on flickr from the owner of the group explaining her reasoning for the rejection.  I was completely blown away by the incredibly personal, and heart felt message I received along with an offer to help me along the way.  I am still in shock a few days later, because it is the first time any one has taken the time to explain why I was denied admission to a group, and because this note happened to be from someone I avidly follow!  Now, this wasn't just a note about how I could do better, or an offer to help, it was also full of information showing me how much time this fantastic woman had taken on me!  I was truly humbled by the experience and I can't wait to learn more, as well as maybe make a friend!  So on my 2 year anniversary of blogging (April 4th) I have decided that this is going to be the year of learning and progress for me as I strive to take better photographs and bring life to those creations given to me to show off to the world.

I poured over every word she wrote and the links she gave, and I have begun working on my masterpiece, which may take a lifetime, but a lifetime of learning is a life well lived, in my opinion.  So with a few tricks up my sleeve I tossed on this stunning ensemble from Amarelo Manga and wandered out onto the grid in search of an elegant café.  After a few attempts I spotted a destination named "Café Port of Dreams" and took the teleport on over to the region.  It is a gorgeous sim with lots of places to investigate, but the café at the end of the walkway when you load is an absolute must see.  Immaculately decorated and appointed in lush fabrics and tones with just the right amount of ambiance, the café quickly made it into my landmarks, which is a rarity, to be honest.  So join me on my journey of discovery this year and see where these lessons lead, and in the meantime, join me for a cup of coffee or tea at the Café Port of Dreams!

Feeling a bit like Spring

I must apologize for my absence over the last few days, but my Father fell ill on Friday and it was a very rough weekend.  He had surgery on his heart yesterday and things are looking better, but needless to say I have been a tad bit distracted and unable to focus on getting dressed or writing.  Today, as you can tell, I am still a bit off and could think of nothing else to write about other than the current stress!  However, one of the things I have noticed over the past few days as I was out and about taking small walks to clear my head, Spring seems to be sneaking up on us in the high country of Arizona!  Everywhere I looked there were swollen nodes on trees, the first green peeking up from the ground with the promise of flowers to come and the birds chattering away.  We have had record breaking temperatures here lately and the sweaters and coats have been moved into the closet, which means it's time to pick out a new Spring wardrobe!  If you haven't heard about Models Giving Back's newest endeavor then do yourself a favor and head over to ReVamped NOW!  You will be surprised at all the goodies available!  Every piece is a re-release that has in some way or another been "re-vamped", giving you all new pieces, and probably some colors you were dying to see of some of your favorite outfits!  Take the taxi below and have some fun shopping with Models Giving Back!

The scene is set for a certain kind of something

I only have two and a half rooms in my house left to decorate and one of them happens to be the bathroom, which means when I saw this amazing new set from Zerkalo at the current round of FaMESHed I rushed right over and grabbed what I needed!  Between that stop, The Gacha Garden and Shiny Shabby I think I might finally be done with the house, other than the kitchen, which really only needs, a sink and maybe another cabinet.  People don't realize sometimes how long it can take to design or set up a scene, so for a little bit of a diversion during the interior design stage I headed up to my platform to check out some of my newest goodies from WE LOVE TO BLOG.  When I hit "apply" on the HUD from Lushish Catz for the 7 Deadly Sin - Vanity set the entire post came together and a mood came over me a bit.  Recently, that one person who can always make me shiver with only his words has dropped back into my life and he has me quite distracted, so I have set the scene and I doubt it will take him very long to figure out what that certain something is on my mind.

I truly believe that every person dreams of traveling to far off places, no matter if they rest their heads on a quiet street in a tiny town no one has ever heard of, or on the busiest street in New York, Los Angeles, London, or Tokyo.  Just the idea of being somewhere new, where you gain a bit of anonymity intrigues me and even though I have traveled the world, it has been many years since I have headed off with no destination in mind, parenthood will do that to you after all.  But I still dream of places I haven't been, and of places that hold memories, and one day I hope to head out again with the sole purpose of getting lost.

Blown away

Last night I went to bed in a pretty good mood so when this morning I woke up wanting to kill the world I was seriously surprised.  So as most of you know, indulging the mood instead of trying to hide it is part of how I function.  Music is playing with the volume turned up louder than normal with a lot of aggro songs in the current mix.  I have no clue what set me off but it is one of those days I am angry at the world, though in all reality, it's no one's fault I feel this way.  Apparently my chemicals got confused last night or I had a dream I can't remember that put me in this mood.  Though I want to be around people at the moment, I don't think I would be very socially acceptable.  I have a friend in Phoenix who used to say that I am funniest when I am bitter and ticked off, which still amuses me.  Guess it's only that way if I have not targeted you as the cause of my mood.  As the day has progressed, I have pinpointed WHO this venomous mood is directed at, but since the target in my mind I can never approach, the walls of my house will get the brunt of my anger today.  However, as I write this I have started to smile, and maybe a bit of a bitter chuckle has escaped my lips since I know that this mood is truly out of place!  For the first time in my life I am truly happy and secure in myself and perfectly content with the way my life is, which is something very new.  I am enjoying the feeling and although the path I am on now was brought about by my heart getting torn to pieces a few years ago I am thankful for that pain.  Out of pain and adversity came a strength in purpose and a dedication to myself and my soul.  All the past, like dead leaves cluttered on the forest floor just needs to be blown away.

Taking a chance on a New Years resolution with a little help from Strawberry Singh

Long before I started blogging I was an avid fan of the wonderful Strawberry Singh which means for over two years now I have been reading her blog and have always been amazed by the number of people who participate in her challenges.  Though I have planned on taking on a challenge or two or ten since I started, part of me has been hesitant, and it's probably the shy side of me, yes I have one!  But for my own resolutions this year I decided I need to be more social and more approachable than I have been in the past few years, which means the first thing I did was head over to Strawberry Singh's site to see what thoughts she had into the new year and to see if there were any challenges being put out to us all in the SL community.  The article from January 2, 2016 put forth a few challenges/resolutions and I was particularly interested in the second.  "Try a mesh head and wear it for at least 24 hours – Some of you have already converted over to mesh heads and have become loyal to them. But there are still a lot of you that are strongly against them. I thought it would be interesting to get you guys to open up a bit and try it out."  Well, as most of my close friends know I have not been a fan of the mesh heads, at all.  Having come over from another 3D site I came to Second Life to be different, to look different, and the last thing I wanted was to go back to just being another face in the crowd.  I have been more than a tad bit resistant, even as more and more heads have been released, as well as oodles of appliers from my favorite skin designers.  Since I had already decided part of 2016 was going to be about stepping out of my comfort zone, I decided to take the mesh head challenge and see what all the fuss was about.  Off I went picking up 20+ different heads from across the grid, as well as several appliers and headed up to my platform to do a little research.

I have to say, I was stunned to discover that 99% of the mesh heads I tried on had to be worn with eyes by the same creator and did not fit IKON's mesh eyes.  Which, for me is truly heart breaking, but made my choice in heads a lot easier!  I literally have over 75 pairs of eyes from IKON and I hate the idea of not being able to use what I think are the most amazing eyes on the grid.  That being said, if you too are a fan of IKON, then know LeLutka heads will always fit your gorgeous peepers!  This seriously narrowed my search and in the end I fell absolutely in love with the last release of 2015, the premier of the V 1.4, Simone.  Check out the blog to see all the goodies released for Simone which should make everyone excited for the upcoming releases as they will be based on this special release.  I actually love this head so much I almost didn't share which LeLutka head I had fallen for, but it is my duty as a blogger to share with you what I discover in my journey along the grid, so with a little bit of grumbling I had to share. I have found out it doesn't matter if you wear the same head or not, how we dress, carry ourselves and the appliers we use change how even a mesh head looks.  If you have been thinking about checking them out for the first time then take some inspiration from me and Strawberry Singh and take a chance on mesh heads for your resolution this year.

I think this ensemble got me a bit fired up as well and got me feeling quite feisty with its flesh baring styling and curve hugging pants which I thought went perfectly with this gorgeous set of dramatic pearls from Indulge Temptation.  You can pick up both items at Swank which started yesterday, so hurry on over and get your hands on some fantastic designs before your friends do since they are probably all preoccupied with some of the larger events that just opened as well.

One more party to ring in the New Year

For the first time in a very long time I did nothing special for New Years Eve and it was so relaxing, but part of me is still itching for one last party!  I don't know about any of you, but if the year isn't capped off by a party I feel a bit let down.  After all, shouldn't we be celebrating the fact we made it through another year?  With all the difficult, beautiful, stressful and amazing things life can throw at us, it is nice to pretty much give yourself a pat on the back for having not throttled people to death over the last 365 days, at least that's how I see it!  This year, I was in bed before midnight, though we were all still awake, which resulted in a strange Waltonesque moment just after the stroke of 12.  I yelled, "Happy New Year," and 9 other voices replied from around the house, followed by a "Goodnight John Boy," from my Father.  If you don't get this reference then I am either showing my age or people really need to go back and watch that show!  Anyway, I digress!  No party has me antsy and looking for a soiree to kick my heels up at so I can bid farewell to a less than stellar year.  If you happen to have parties coming up in the near future then make sure you head over to NoName to get your hands on this gorgeous new party dress!

Wonderfully chic for Christmas

As I sit and look out the window my view happens to be a bit short at the moment, since all I can see is white!  The snow has been falling off and on since Sunday night and apparently we are due up to 6 inches by the time day is done and another 6 tomorrow.  Which if I had put up a tree and was planning on spending Christmas here at home, it would be fantastic.  However, the holidays are down at my parents this year and my sister doesn't get off of work until late tomorrow afternoon.  So now I sit wondering if we are even going to be able to get down there for Christmas, which has me a bit cranky and preoccupied at the moment.  However, to brighten up my day I headed on over to Trés Chic to do a little retail therapy and see if I could lighten my mood a bit, and it worked!  No matter where I happen to end up for Christmas at least I will wonderfully chic!

Caught dancing in the waning rays of the sun

From time to time during this season I have been caught by many a person dancing in the sunbeams as they trickle through the curtains.  The chill of the evenings has set into my bones now and the sun seems to warm me from the inside out and keep that fire inside me lit for the coming Winter.  As I was flipping through my new pose set from Le Poppycock at Chapter Four to show off this gorgeous new ensemble from AnaMarkova Designs, I giggled a bit because this pose really made me think of how I must look when people catch me dancing and singing with the sunbeams in the living room.

I think my head just broke the desk

You know when you are going along just fine, life is good and the ONE has finally slipped from your every waking thought until something stupid suddenly brings the one who broke your heart crashing into your memory?  The last couple of days fall into that category.  Here I am thrilled with my new home and finally feeling like I am settled on SL after a year and a half and BOOM; all I can think about is the person I wish I was sharing it with.  Which in all reality, is just a stupid thought, but yet there it is.  Wandering the rooms thinking how much he would love it and how much I wish he could see it.  But that ship sailed years ago now, and even our friendship finds it hard to stay as real life pulls him further and further from our online life.  I actually contemplated banging my head on the desk, but with as hard headed as I am, I really do think I might have broken it, the desk that is.  So of course I headed upstairs to my platform to get away from the memories for a bit and happened upon this gorgeous new bodysuit from *LX*.
