Though my son did all of his "Senior" stuff last year, other than graduate, for some reason I am suddenly slammed with all kinds of emotions as the reality of him graduating and leaving home hits me. As we were driving to school the other day a new song by Macklemore and Kesha came on the radio and I found myself staring at my son as he drove wondering if he knew that now and for the next couple of years, were the best of his days. The last days of true freedom, of being on your own and finding yourself with all the ups and downs that come with it, become those days you look back on the most as the silver starts to run through your hair, and the lines begin to make themselves more evident when you stare in the mirror. Needless to say I have been a bit emotional as we go through the college applications, Senior photos, quotes and the letter he has asked me to write, along with my best friend, to accompany the slideshow of him growing up for Graduation; so instead of whining and crying, I will share with you the song and of course a stunning new release!

One more party to ring in the New Year

For the first time in a very long time I did nothing special for New Years Eve and it was so relaxing, but part of me is still itching for one last party!  I don't know about any of you, but if the year isn't capped off by a party I feel a bit let down.  After all, shouldn't we be celebrating the fact we made it through another year?  With all the difficult, beautiful, stressful and amazing things life can throw at us, it is nice to pretty much give yourself a pat on the back for having not throttled people to death over the last 365 days, at least that's how I see it!  This year, I was in bed before midnight, though we were all still awake, which resulted in a strange Waltonesque moment just after the stroke of 12.  I yelled, "Happy New Year," and 9 other voices replied from around the house, followed by a "Goodnight John Boy," from my Father.  If you don't get this reference then I am either showing my age or people really need to go back and watch that show!  Anyway, I digress!  No party has me antsy and looking for a soiree to kick my heels up at so I can bid farewell to a less than stellar year.  If you happen to have parties coming up in the near future then make sure you head over to NoName to get your hands on this gorgeous new party dress!

Lost in memories of Christmas

Do you remember when Christmas was filled with toys that sometimes required batteries, the bigger the stuffed animal the better, parents stayed up hours to put together bicycles, and hours spent sitting around the tree with the family?  No one thinking of working on Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day and the biggest stressor was often the drunk Aunt passed out on the sofa after sneaking a bit too much Rum in her Eggnog.  Now, everyone under 25 is glued to a phone/laptop/tablet and the gifts always have something to do with video games or computers which makes them small, and the invention of gift cards, though convenient they taken much of the fun out of opening gifts, in my opinion.  As we continue to grow more and more attached to our technological devices the more distant we grow from each other, it seems.  When our family gets together there is a basket for all the devices to be tossed in during "family" events, like dinner, movies or like later this week, Christmas.  Everything has become automatic, convenient, and easy yet the times before that seem easier and I truly long for them.  Even my family, who cherishes our time together has gone to checks the month before so we can buy what we want and part of me really hates that system.  I long to be surprised on Christmas morning again with a gift I never would have thought to buy for myself and I wish for a time when tons of presents are stacked under the tree, or at least a couple special ones.  In the end, I guess I wish for a simpler time when everything wasn't automatic.

The peaceful tranquility of Dawn

If you like to sleep late then you probably miss out on one of the most spectacular times of day in my opinion, especially in the Fall.  The frost hangs heavy on what remains of the leaves on the trees and as the Sun edges over the horizon steam rises as the beams instantly bring life to the still surroundings.  The snow has melted down here in town, but the mountains continue to be blanketed in white.  This morning as the Sun danced with its rainbow of colors I had a perfect moment of peace as I stood with my cup of coffee and let the rays warm me as they did my surroundings.  Do yourself a favor and get up early sometime, before the bitter chill of Winter sets in and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of the Dawn.

Happy November!

Not sure about the rest of you but I am so glad Halloween has come and gone and that I can finally begin to focus on the upcoming holidays.  It's like Halloween marks that point you pack up the Summer apparel and pull the sweater boxes out from under the bed and start to dig through the closets to find your boots.  I think it is an unconscious attempt to hold onto Summer a bit longer before giving into the shorter days and surrendering to the long cold Winter.  I find it a tad peculiar that I seem to love colors in the bleak, cold days of Winter in the mountains and I happen to wear a lot less black than normal, which shocks most people since as far as I am concerned black is a full wardrobe.  But the jeweled tones of the holidays are my favorites and you can always count on me to brighten up whatever occasion I have happened out too, and TASHI has captured this perfectly with the new Chelsy release for the round of FAD which ends SOON, so make sure you head on over and pick up wonderful designs with the month of November and the deep Fall in mind!

Autumn Treasures

Good morning world!  (Well when it was still morning, my day got in my way!) I woke up this morning freezing with all the windows open in the house but with how the weather is up here in the high desert of Arizona, it is going to be almost 80 today, so I won't be closing them!  So I sit here in my Land's End thick as hell, ready for Alaska, robe and thick socks sipping my coffee typing to you all before I head out for a rather busy day.  In case you haven't noticed UnKindness has been releasing tons of wonderful items this month with several still out and about at events for you to pick up and since I was decorating for Fall at home I wanted to share a couple of the pieces with you all.
