"Just the thought of you can make me smile." Uncle Kracker

I woke up yesterday morning with a song playing through my head and it hasn't made it's way out yet, which of course means I am going to end up sharing it with you all.  It doesn't seem to matter how I feel, or what kind of day it is, when I open my eyes and look across the bed, all I can do is smile.  I haven't felt like that in a very long time, and I sometimes wonder if I have actually ever been this completely satisfied with every area of my life.  It is a new and glorious feeling and I seriously hope it doesn't end any time soon.  I find myself up earlier than normal for me since the alarm goes off at 5:30 am to send the bread winner off to work, so I end up slowly crawling out of bed, getting dressed and heading into town to work.  I love those early morning hours when the sun still hasn't warmed the air too much; the birds are in constant melodic conversation and the bunnies scamper across the yard in droves.  I like to sit out on the back steps and watch all the wildlife on their morning commutes to wherever they go, it seems to bring me a bit of peace to see that the whole animal kingdom has their jobs to do, especially as I haul my butt into town to sit at my computer and work, but there is this strange little thing I wear as an accessory these days, a perpetual smile that tugs at the corners of my mouth.  People have been telling me it looks good on me, and I have to agree.

As the end of the month closes in on me, I have been scrambling to make sure I have met all my blogging requirements for my sponsors, and with it being my first month back, I am a little behind.  Which has me frantically trying to get everything done today and tomorrow, which is never my style, so I am a bit out of sorts.  Virtual Diva has been pumping out amazing releases this month, including eyes and a gown for group gifts as well as a gorgeous swimsuit, hair and jewelry released for the July round of Swank, which I am pretty sure has ended, but make sure to try there first.  If they have closed up for the month then check the store next week after Angel has time to get the designs up in the store.  The Bibi hair is elegantly draped to the side with loose curls and comes in a wide variety of colors, so you are sure to find your favorite.  I love how it doesn't cut into the neck, which seems to be a problem with a lot of hairs that drape snugly, AND you get to show off your favorite earrings and necklaces!  Upon my return I jumped into the blogger group for RAYNE Couture and grabbed all the goodies I could, so even though I wasn't around for their releases, I could still share with you some of the absolutely stunning designs released over the Summer.  The Banjo Top and Banjo Pants are perfect for those Summer nights in lovely Linen and a variety of colors.  I just love these pants and have been out and about on the grid wearing them with several different tops, making them an incredibly versatile addition to your closet and a MUST HAVE on my list!  The tied, button-down shirt has fantastic detailing on the pockets and a perfectly relaxed collar.  Do yourself a favor and stop by RAYNE Couture today and check out all of the newest releases, and make sure to spend some time investigating the incredibly appointed SIM surrounding the store, it is well worth your time.

"We will carve our place into time and space We will find our way, or we'll make a way." Alessia Cara

As my son approaches that golden hour of adult hood where he will head out on his own,  I find myself repeating the same things over and over again.  We seem to be in a constant conversation about finding himself and making his way outside of the "popular" crowd to a place where being different is okay and actually encouraged.  I have heard my generation are now called Helicopter parents and I now understand what that means.  Those of us born in the 70's who came of age in the 80's seem to hover around our children because as kids most homes had both parents working, which led to a lot of unsupervised hours with us latchkey kids.  We did it all and saw it all and know exactly what our children can get up to in those times when an adult isn't looking, so of course we tend to hover and circle.  Which means I am quite involved in almost all areas of his life, including some he would rather I have nothing to do with, but nonetheless no topic seems to be unreachable for us.  Though at times I have to bite my tongue, the fact my 17 year old talks to me is an accomplishment.  I never had the kind of relationship he and I have with my own parents until I was well into my 20's and I regret all those wasted years.  People have always said you can't be friends with your kids, and in some ways that is true, and in others it is not.  If you can maintain the level of respect due to a parent and still function as more of a friend then you can have the best of both worlds with your kids, at least that is what I believe strongly.  Which means you get to encourage them in ways you can't as just a parent and it opens up amazing lines of communication, so you get to have pretty amazing moments as your child discovers themselves.  I was always living a little bit left of center, and though "popular" by most high school standards, I didn't run with the "IN" crowd.  I was always a bit different in my style, my thoughts, and opinions and tended to be drawn to those on the outside looking in, with me.  Being strong enough to wade through those waters of bullies and teasing; snobs and jocks; alternatives, stoners, punks and have friends in all groups has a lot to do with who I have become and I pride myself on being a surprise to people, because who I am is never quite what people expect upon first glance.  I truly believe that those who live on the fringe, those some would call imperfect, are the ones with true beauty and who live their lives authentically.  Though the words have been a bit twisted over the years, Jacob Nordby's original phrasing rings clear like a bell in the night whose melody ripples through time like those on a still lake after a stone is tossed.

Beatitudes for the Weird

– Jacob Nordby –
Blessed are the weird people
—poets, misfits, writers, mystics
heretics, painters & troubadours—
for they teach us to see the world through different eyes.
Blessed are those who embrace the intensity of life’s pain and pleasure,
for they shall be rewarded with uncommon ecstasy.
Blessed are ye who see beauty in ugliness,
for you shall transform our vision of how the world might be.
Blessed are the bold and whimsical,
for their imagination shatters ancient boundaries of fear for us all.
Blessed are ye who are mocked for unbridled expression of love in all its forms,
because your kind of crazy is exactly that freedom for which the world is unconsciously begging.
Blessed are those who have endured breaking by life,
for they are the resplendent cracks through which the light shines.

Taking a break from the winds of change to remind myself to breathe

For those of you who have been following my blog for a bit, you know I HATE change in any form, whether for good or bad.  I am like a dog that hates to be walked on a leash; ass end down with claws digging into the ground refusing to be moved.  Recently, however, I have had to be like a Weeping Willow blowing in the winds of change, reminding myself to breathe and allow myself to be swept away.  In case you haven't been following along, the last few months have brought about a new relationship, that I also gained another teenage boy with, a brand-new computer, and as of last night, the boyfriend and I bought a new vehicle!  Which in the grand scheme of things, as I look forward to my future, is HUGE!  Granted, it isn't brand new, and actually it's 14 years old, but we stumbled into one of those finds of a lifetime; a 2002 Yukon that has been used by an 80+ year old woman to get groceries for the last 14 years and then parked in a garage and out of the hot Arizona sun.  It was never our intention to get something that old, or in fact, another SUV, but with the incredibly low mileage, near mint condition inside and outside and the smoking good deal we were offered, we couldn't pass it up.  But after 6 hours at and around the dealership looking at all kinds of vehicles and then not being able to sleep until the wee hours of the morning because of that high you get after purchasing something like that, my body and my mind needed a break.

I realized as I sat down again in this chair today in a tucked away corner of my home I hadn't once taken time out of my day to just breathe.  That is usually the first thing out of my mouth to friends when they are stressed or going to fast, "Remember to breathe."  Now that seems like a stupid comment I know, but think about it for a moment.  When we are going nonstop, and the stress level is bordering on critical we rarely stop and concentrate on our breathing.  In fact, most of the time people's breathing gets more shallow and rapid, making your blood pressure rise which just adds to the issues, so it's important to take just a few beats of your heart and concentrate on ten long, deep breaths.  I took my own advice finally, after the work space cleared this afternoon and I feel incredibly better.  It doesn't take away the stressors, but it does remind you to slow down, even for a moment, which is sometimes all we need when the kettle is about to boil over.  I also am a big fan of retail therapy, and most often with me, that comes in the form of extravagant and nonsensical shoes, in SL and RL.  Rayne had the perfect ones for my mood this weekend and you just have to go pick yourself up a pair or two, or maybe all of them!  The shoes are exclusively available at the Stuff Style Sales Room, a monthly event brought to you by the creators of Womenstuff, Menstuff, and HomeStuff which runs until the 28th, so hurry on over before the goodies head out!

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. - Audrey Hepburn

Every year, for almost as long as I can remember now, I have spent the early days of March cultivating baby plants in the windows of my home.  As the tiny seeds sprout above the soil, raising their heads to the sun, a promise is made for the coming of Spring and the bounty of Summer that will quickly follow.  You don't take the time to toil in a garden unless you believe in tomorrow, because otherwise what would be the point?  Every new arrival brings hope of what will follow; whether a plant, vegetable, fruit or tuber, each one holds a promise.  Sometimes I think the promise is of course dinner on a distant Summer night with friends out under the stars, and other times I simply think it is a vow of more beautiful days to come.  Which can warm the blood even in the darkest of cold March nights.  This year, with neck surgery in April, I decided to not give life to any new plants this year since I know I will be away far too much and not quite as mobile for some time.  This doesn't keep me from peeking in my neighbors yards or from checking the yard to see what has made it through a harsh mountain Winter, after all, the hope of a beautiful Summer lies napping just beyond our sight!

This adorably flirty ultra mini dress from Rayne Couture is an absolute MUST have addition to your wardrobe this Spring if you are wanting to entice and yet keep your most valuable assets hidden!  The pouf skirt is daringly short but with the wide pleats you don't show off anything you don't want to as you walk around the grid.  You of course will have issues when you sit, but seriously who would want to when you look this cute?!  I know I didn't!  The dress comes in a variety of colors that will fit perfectly into your closet this Spring, so do yourself a favor and head by the main store today and take a "Chance!"

Caught celebrating Spring's return

Yesterday marked the first day of Spring, and as always I took some time to spin around out in the Sun, under the freshly opened Cherry Blossoms, listening to the birds chirping with my eyes closed I was again amazed by the beautiful bounty brought to us by Mother Nature.  This moment inspired me to go try on a few new goodies I have gotten and I absolutely fell in love with the newest creation from Rayne Couture, which happens to be an exclusive for InspirationSL.

The Lambkin sweater dress comes in five colors and a variety of sizes meaning you are sure to find your favorite, which won't be hard since the fit is fabulous and didn't break or stretch oddly in any pose.  I wandered over to PosESion last night and picked up a new set of poses since mine were feeling a bit stale, and I just fell in love with the whimsical Elfaba set, which added the exact feel I wanted for this photo.  As usual, PinkRayne makes it easy to find a pair of shoes for that gorgeous new dress with her coordinating heels.  The Lambkin Wedges are also an exclusive for InspirationSL and come in five coordinating colors for the dress, so do yourself a favor and head over to the event, as soon as you can get in, since it started yesterday!!

As usual, I am a sucker for the nail polishes from DaneMarkZ, and I got to spend a bit of time with the incredibly talented Hannah Daviau yesterday, who was kind enough to send me over a couple sets of polishes I didn't have, which means I just HAD to show them off today!  The Blizzard Vibrant nails come in a wide variety of colors with cute detailing.  I love the deep, jeweled tones, even though heading into Spring, as sometimes I think you need to make a statement and bring some attention to that new manicure!  I hope you all spent some time out celebrating the return of Spring yesterday, as I did, and that you have been inspired to head to InspirationSL so you can get your hands on this adorable ensemble too!

Spring has arrived on the Yorkshire Moors

For some time now I have been visiting the gorgeous sim where Rayne Couture sits to take photos and often to just sit and relax.  The Yorkshire Moors have been immaculately appointed by the amazing Pink Rayne who decorated this sim to remind herself of her childhood home.  Wandering the paths throughout you will find lots of little treasures and places to sit and snap a photo or 100.  The landscape is dotted with rare thickets of trees and flowers, long grasses and wide open spaces where beauty abounds, which isn't often what comes to mind when thinking of a moor, but this is truly a beautiful sight to behold!  When I put on this gorgeous ensemble from AlaFolie for ReVamped, which happens to end in only 3 days, I knew I wanted to take a stroll over on the moors.

The skirt and top from AlaFolie are truly wonderfully bohemian pieces that I am very excited about getting to have in my closet and to get to show to you!  Both pieces come in a wide variety of colors, many perfect for the Spring season just around the corner, as well as a fabulous fat pack that you will be incredibly happy with, trust me!  The top and the skirt can only be found at the current round of ReVamped which happens to end in just THREE days, which means you need to hurry on over to get your hands on these amazing re-released products all having been changed in some way, thus being ReVamped!  I happen to be showing you a "Jaded" hair today, which means this is one you can find me in when I am out and about on the grid.  I love the flirtatious, yet casual styling and the scarf can be changed to mix and match with all your favorite ensembles, so check the details below and take your taxi on over to Damselfly!

Some of the best pictures happen when you aren't looking.

Yesterday I moved into my new home and there happens to be an absolutely AMAZING dock on the property that I immediately went and sat on for a bit enjoying the water and playing with windlights.  As usual I settled on a stunning sunset and settled in for a bit, just taking in the view before starting my first post for Rayne Couture.  As I started going through poses I was struck by the fact the scene and ensemble reminded me of so many vacation photos from my youth where my Dad caught my Mom while she wasn't looking.  Thumbing through a photo album after I took this shot I realized those photos of her are still my favorites, almost like when she didn't know the camera was focused her direction, her inner beauty shone brighter.  For me, there is something thought provoking in this shot, and I hope you enjoy the view and the ensemble as much as I do!

I am lucky to have been picked to blog for Rayne Couture, who I have been a huge fan of during the times of Sneak Peek, and with their hiatus I truly have been missing her designs.  So I feel truly blessed and I have to admit terribly excited, but as you all know my time has been taken up recently with the Home and Garden Expo.  With that wonderful event ending last night I can once again dive into showing you BOTH home and garden items as well as fashion!  It is all about an attention to detail after all.
The Willow top comes in several different colors indicative of Spring being right around the corner and the fit is amazing, you can almost feel the flow as you move around, which made me fall in love with it immediately!  Paired with the new Skinny Jeans release which come in Basics and Candy colors meaning you can mix and match with all your Spring tops, making them a MUST have addition to your wardrobe, so do yourself a favor and head on over to the store today!  If you are looking for adorable Spring heels then make sure to check out the Ravish heels, also a brand new release at the main store.

The Ravish heels come in a wide variety of color combinations, so I am sure you will find your favorite in the bunch!  I love the little bow and foot revealing spike heel, perfect for this Spring and no better way to show off a new pedicure either, so head to the store now, you wont be disappointed!
