My quiet time to find original answers - Featuring KiB Designs

Today is my son's 19th birthday and I am in a bit of a daze wondering when he turned from my "little man" into a man, but it seems to have happened over night. It was just he and I for a lot of years, and relying on each other has made our bond quite strong, but as any parent of a teen knows, sometimes it's hard to remember what it was like before all the arguing, yelling and independence seeking began. In the end you have to take a step back and watch them grow into adulthood, offering your help as it's needed and also learning when to let them experience life on their own terms, just as we all did years ago. I know he will probably wander far from home, and even today he said he will miss me when he goes, but no matter how far he roams, I reminded him that I will always be with him. Not in that sappy, in your heart way, but more in the fact that with every decision he makes in life he will carry the lessons I have tried to teach with him, and hope it guides him in the right directions in life. But everyone makes mistakes, and it isn't about how many times you fail, it's about getting back up and how you handle the failure that counts. I often find myself repeating the same quote over and over to him, and at this moment, I feel that I should heed my own advice and take some quiet time to ponder this amazingly wonderful, yet heartbreaking thing called life.

Others inspire us, information feeds us, practice improves our performance, but we need quiet time to figure things out, to emerge with new discoveries, to unearth original answers.

Have you ever had a friend misunderstand you so badly that it pretty much ends a friendship?  While the strings that have held you together for years start to fall away, you sit, still stunned, because you never had any intention of hurting their feelings?  I may be a weaver of words, but when things become emotional I become mute, especially when I have upset someone unintentionally.  After a couple of months I have come to realize that not everyone, even those you thought were closest to you, will understand you all the time.  We all get caught up in our own worlds and have a tendency to not step outside the box and do "others" thinking, as I call it.  You have to identify the situation someone is in before you judge, and see it from the point of view of the person you have an issue with, but this rarely happens, and it's sad when assumptions become the rule not the exception.  When all has been said and done and you are at peace with your side of things, all you can do is wait and see what the future holds and hope for the best because friendships are worth saving, not losing over a misunderstanding.

As some of you know, the past couple of years I have been working on getting into better shape, and with that has come a significant weight loss.  Though I had wanted to lose weight, my plan didn't include 100+ pounds, since I honestly believed I couldn't do it.  Over the last year my brain has finally started to come around and the person I see in the mirror is a much more realistic version of me, compared to what I had been seeing for the last few years.  One of the things that happens, I think for most people, when losing a lot of weight, there is a reluctance to go out and buy new clothes because of the fear we all have of sizes.  Anyone who has ever gained a bunch of weight knows your clothes can stretch with you to a point, which means we have no clue what size we truly are at the height of our weight, or at the lower end because we have gotten stuck in our comfort zone.  I honestly didn't buy anything new, or step on a scale for over three years before I began this new way of life, because that is what it is, not a diet.  I also refused to buy new clothes, other than when something was needed, and then I honestly only bought stuff at Walmart.  What was the point of spending money on a size of clothing I didn't want to be in, and hated looking at the tags?  By the time I went to get clothes, because they were literally falling off of me, I had gone from a size 26, to a size 18; and after a shopping spree over the weekend, I can say everything except my jeans was bought in the regular sized ladies department.  I think I might have been 24 the last time I could say that, and I think I am still floating on cloud nine!  It would have been 18 years this month that I was at least 80 - 100 pounds overweight, and now I can say I have 30 pounds to go to be in the Doc's acceptable body weight, which means, probably 20 pounds in my eyes.  If I was doubtful about being able to lose this much and get back in shape, my father was a complete skeptic!  He is a bit of a tyrant when it comes to weight, and has given me a hard time for years.  I happened to have to see him this morning for a meeting at Social Security and I of course had to wear a new dress I bought this weekend.  Though he didn't say much to me, he did say he liked the dress, but I got a call a couple of hours later that has a smile etched into my face this afternoon.  Apparently he went home and told my mother I looked stunning today and that he couldn't believe how hard I had worked to get to where I am today.  I don't think it matters how old you are, a compliment from your Dad means the WORLD, especially if you happen to be a bit of a daddy's girl.  Now I know that I have done most of this work on my own, I do have to bring up the fact that being truly happy has helped out a lot.  For the first time since my early 20's I am complete in all areas of my life; romantic, financial, career, spiritual, social; every area is fulfilled and with that has come a sense of peace and true bliss.  Suddenly, that pesky plateau I couldn't get past melted away and those last few pounds seem to be disappearing into the wind, like a snake shedding it's skin to grow and stretch and learn.  All things become possible when all things in your life are complete.  Notice I said possible, because as we all know, no one should ever get everything they want in this life.  Makes life a bit too predictable and I personally enjoy that part of our lives, even though it can be frustrating at times.  So if there is one thing I can say this Summer, is that I have learned true love really changes you and your life in ways you never imagined!

The Ice Swan Princess from Hopes Creations @ SL 2015 Christmas Expo

I know that everyone who blogs has had those moments where you open up a blogger box and are just blown away by the contents.  I had one of those "oooo" moments when I dug into the box from Hopes Creations for the SL 2015 Christmas Expo.  Hopes Creations brings you several outfits for this event but if  you are looking to blow away a special someone, or you are in need of a Winter ensemble for photos, then hurry on over to the event and pick up the Ice Swan Princess!

Also check out these amazing lashes and gorgeous make up, from Oceane, only available at the SL 2015 Christmas Expo as well.  The upper lashes remind me of the snowflake cutouts I made a a child and really brought my childhood memories of Christmas to the forefront and maybe a few warm and fuzzies.  The lower lashes are fluffy, white and perfectly done.  The make up is also from Oceane and comes in different versions for you to choose from; the set can be worn together or the eyes or lips alone, which makes the make up sets very versatile.  I hope I have given you more incentive to head on over to the event and shop for a good cause since the Expo happens to be a Relay for Life Production meaning all or part of the proceeds of your purchases go to benefit the cause; and there is no better time of the year to give a little back!

Happy November!

Not sure about the rest of you but I am so glad Halloween has come and gone and that I can finally begin to focus on the upcoming holidays.  It's like Halloween marks that point you pack up the Summer apparel and pull the sweater boxes out from under the bed and start to dig through the closets to find your boots.  I think it is an unconscious attempt to hold onto Summer a bit longer before giving into the shorter days and surrendering to the long cold Winter.  I find it a tad peculiar that I seem to love colors in the bleak, cold days of Winter in the mountains and I happen to wear a lot less black than normal, which shocks most people since as far as I am concerned black is a full wardrobe.  But the jeweled tones of the holidays are my favorites and you can always count on me to brighten up whatever occasion I have happened out too, and TASHI has captured this perfectly with the new Chelsy release for the round of FAD which ends SOON, so make sure you head on over and pick up wonderful designs with the month of November and the deep Fall in mind!

When I'm Gone

I know I have been a bit short on words as of late but I have been adjusting to my new busy schedule with physical therapy, my teenagers schedule and figuring out how to fit in everything that I need to get done which has left me a little frazzled.  At those times, I find it hard to talk about much when I am just trying to keep my head above water and not wear myself out.  Now that it has been a few weeks, I am settling in and things are starting to get back to normal.  Yet, as things are getting better in so many areas of my life my love life continues to have issues, which means I once again am wondering why I even bother sometimes.  I love my single life but having someone to share things with would be nice, and finding someone who isn't so practical that when things get difficult they "practically" move you out of the way would be nice.  I honestly believed that I had found someone who has on the same wavelength but I am so tired of PRACTICAL!  At some point in your life you have to take chances and not worry about what happens on the other side.  Isn't that what living is really all about?  Taking risks; learning to leap; stretching your wings?  When you are heading over that hump towards the last half of your life it is time to prioritize.  For me, as I look to my son heading off to college my priority is myself and being happy and not waiting on someone to realize I am more than they ever thought possible.  While he works all the time and doesn't find a way to fit me in, I draw further away and I have started looking towards what's next for me in this life.  I will never stop chasing my dreams but it is time to stop chasing a person.  After all, dreams are made up of possibilities, he is just one.  He is my friend and I enjoy our time together, when he manages to find it, but I am done with Mr. Practical and I am now looking for Mr. Spontaneous!  And one of these days he is going to realize I have set my sights on other shores and I have a feeling he is going to miss me when I'm gone!

In the dark of the night I will fly away

One of my favorite things about getting to blog haute couture is that very often the pieces are a bit over the top, insanely creative and get the creative juices flowing the moment you put the ensemble together.  The Solaris AW15 Fashion Week challenged the creators to design "fantasy" inspired designs and I was absolutely blown away by the stunning Dark Night ensemble that came from the mind of JUMO.

Every piece of this outfit is incredibly well made with exquisitely textured details that truly make this a high fashion fantasy piece that would fit perfectly in your closet for your black tie affairs this October.  As I wandered around searching for a place to take a picture a song started playing its way through my head and I was reminded of how often I have wished I had wings that could take me high above and far away from the world around me.  So off I drifted into the sky in my newly found wings towards the distant horizon....will you follow me into the unknown?

In the early morning hours, now that the sun sits lower in the sky, you can often catch the sun and the moon sharing the sky.  As I rose this morning such was the sight through my office window and of course I knew exactly how I was going to show off this gorgeous new lingerie set from POSH PIXELS and the tune to go with it!  This stunning new ensemble is only available at the current round of Designer Circle and comes in a variety of colors via HUD, so I am sure you will find your favorite!  I love the intricate lace detailing and the way it catches the light is beautiful.  Since I am still riding the single train I tucked this little number away in what you could call my "Hope" chest and maybe someday I will get to feel sensual and gorgeous for someone else, not just me!

It's perfect sweater weather

Monday's are an unusual day for me, as they really are just like any other day.  I rarely sleep in late and I often do the same things on the weekends as I do during the week, so really the only change for me is having to deal with traffic when Monday morning rolls around.  I know that this is probably a luxury only those of us who are home all the time have to deal with, but I have to say I don't miss the hassle that perpetually goes with Monday mornings.  However, I say this at 3:28 in the afternoon and I haven't managed to get out this post!  The photo has been done for almost two days now and yet, here I sit.  So I guess you could say, today, this Monday, I am having a start of the week imaginative slump.  Which is very odd since this ensemble has put me in such a whimsical mood, yet nothing wants to jump out of my head and onto the page!  So while I deal with my Monday let's talk about AnaMarkova Designs for a moment.  The gorgeous designs have been popping up all over the grid this Summer and perfect for the "homey" feel of Fall, an amazing new collection has been released in the store featuring a stunning Autumn palette, shape draping designs and exquisite attention to detail all at affordable prices to you!  After all being chic doesn't have to cost a fortune.

"Summer came like cinnamon, so sweet"

Spring was something that never really hit the high country here in Arizona this year, but Summer is peeking around the corner and the temps are rising.  I remember Summer's growing up in St. Louis and how as the temperatures grew so did the evening adventures into the Central West End; with its sidewalk cafes, retro clothing stores, restaurants and my favorite place, Vintage Vinyl.  Though I spent my teens listening to cassette tapes there is something so classic and pure about a record printed on vinyl.  I hate that my son and the majority of his friends have no idea what a "record" is, let alone know what to do with it if they ever found one!  Vintage Vinyl had cubicles you could play records in and I remember stuffing 4 or 5 teen girls into one to hear the newest release from one of our favorite bands.  Needless to say as I was out wandering around looking for a place to inspire me for a picture, I headed by Indie Heights, and to my surprise found Vintage Vinyl.  Though a little modern, I was immediately transported back in time and I closed my eyes for a moment and I swear I could smell the fresh pressed vinyl.  If you too have a love of records and are looking for a spot to just chill out and think about the times gone by, then head on over to your favorite Thrift Shop and grab an old player with a couple of albums and get nostalgic with me for simpler times.

A Tattered Page* is a wonderful event that is inspired by a book the designers and bloggers read.  Each individual gets to use their imagination and take what they see and feel from the story and create unique designs.  The ability to transform the written word into images, clothes, furniture etc. gives everyone involved a freedom not often found.  This passage, and the dress created an image in my mind outside of what was written and I hope you enjoyed!

Addams Family Comes to Elm Street!

Ever  have one of those moments when preparing a post that everything comes together EXACTLY the way you want?  Today was one of those days, and this is one of those posts!  Opening up my blogger box from 67 for SL Vogue on Elm Street I might have actually let out a little squeal of delight seeing the Addams Family costumes!  Immediately I dove into the Wednesday Addams box and suddenly....Wednesday had grown up into quite a sexy little witch, if I do say so myself!

The top and skirt fit very well, and I love the addition of the collar!  ForeverFamous has a Coven collection that has been appearing piece by piece at recent events, including this GORGEOUS rosary, an exclusive at SL Vogue on Elm Street!    These adorable shoes have a hud that controls the upper shoe, strap and the studs on the back, the heel stays black making a very striking shoe, no matter which color combination you choose!  The shoes, by Diamante. are currently at Vintage and Cool, but the event closes its doors on the 24th so hurry on over!  Same can be said for the Exile hair at Uber!
