I remember back in high school and my early college years joking about stealing one of those highway road work signs that says, "Men Working" and hanging it over my bed. It used to amuse the hell out of me, and to this day, still kind of does in that juvenile sort of way. That feeling changed yesterday however, as the men of my home had to tear up the carpet and padding to see what was wrong with the floor, since it was starting to collapse; only to discover a cracked floor support piece. Which means, I need a "Men Working" sign this weekend to remind me to avoid the extremely large hole in the bedroom floor that just happens to be on my side of the room on the way to the bathroom. Being the fix-it man he is, the boyfriend thinks it is going to be an easy fix, so as I sit hear and type they are off to Home Depot to get the materials needed to repair the beam and the enormous hole that had to be cut. I am hoping I don't need any more orange cones with reflective tape tonight and that I can once again dance around our bedroom between the shadows and the light.
As most of you know, one of the reasons I love being a part of WE LOVE TO BLOG, is that I get introduced to designers I might normally come across, as they start off their careers on SL. As some of you know, the past couple of years I have been working on getting into better shape, and with that has come a significant weight loss. Though I had wanted to lose weight, my plan didn't include 100+ pounds, since I honestly believed I couldn't do it. Over the last year my brain has finally started to come around and the person I see in the mirror is a much more realistic version of me, compared to what I had been seeing for the last few years. One of the things that happens, I think for most people, when losing a lot of weight, there is a reluctance to go out and buy new clothes because of the fear we all have of sizes. Anyone who has ever gained a bunch of weight knows your clothes can stretch with you to a point, which means we have no clue what size we truly are at the height of our weight, or at the lower end because we have gotten stuck in our comfort zone. I honestly didn't buy anything new, or step on a scale for over three years before I began this new way of life, because that is what it is, not a diet. I also refused to buy new clothes, other than when something was needed, and then I honestly only bought stuff at Walmart. What was the point of spending money on a size of clothing I didn't want to be in, and hated looking at the tags? By the time I went to get clothes, because they were literally falling off of me, I had gone from a size 26, to a size 18; and after a shopping spree over the weekend, I can say everything except my jeans was bought in the regular sized ladies department. I think I might have been 24 the last time I could say that, and I think I am still floating on cloud nine! It would have been 18 years this month that I was at least 80 - 100 pounds overweight, and now I can say I have 30 pounds to go to be in the Doc's acceptable body weight, which means, probably 20 pounds in my eyes. If I was doubtful about being able to lose this much and get back in shape, my father was a complete skeptic! He is a bit of a tyrant when it comes to weight, and has given me a hard time for years. I happened to have to see him this morning for a meeting at Social Security and I of course had to wear a new dress I bought this weekend. Though he didn't say much to me, he did say he liked the dress, but I got a call a couple of hours later that has a smile etched into my face this afternoon. Apparently he went home and told my mother I looked stunning today and that he couldn't believe how hard I had worked to get to where I am today. I don't think it matters how old you are, a compliment from your Dad means the WORLD, especially if you happen to be a bit of a daddy's girl. Now I know that I have done most of this work on my own, I do have to bring up the fact that being truly happy has helped out a lot. For the first time since my early 20's I am complete in all areas of my life; romantic, financial, career, spiritual, social; every area is fulfilled and with that has come a sense of peace and true bliss. Suddenly, that pesky plateau I couldn't get past melted away and those last few pounds seem to be disappearing into the wind, like a snake shedding it's skin to grow and stretch and learn. All things become possible when all things in your life are complete. Notice I said possible, because as we all know, no one should ever get everything they want in this life. Makes life a bit too predictable and I personally enjoy that part of our lives, even though it can be frustrating at times. So if there is one thing I can say this Summer, is that I have learned true love really changes you and your life in ways you never imagined!

I took a walk into the woods tonight, and as my thoughts drifted so did my feet from my well worn path and before I knew it, night had set in and I was dreadfully lost. Stumbling along in the darkness a light in the distance guided my way, almost like a beacon. The bright warm glow drew me in like a moth to a flame and before long I emerged in a hidden glade with fireflies and a quaint shack. The ravens above the door and the jars in the window raised the hairs on my neck but the beautiful, yet haunting tune seemed to put any fear aside and up to the door I strolled.
A Tabby cat rubbed against my leg as I crossed the threshold and slowly strolled through the cabin and curled up next to the vintage phonograph haphazardly placed on the floor. The scent of fresh caramel and apples struck me as my eyes took in the scene around me. Lost in the woods I had stumbled upon a Fortune Tellers home, marked by the crystal ball on the table and more than likely the occupant was also a witch, with ritual items scattered about the place. What drew me to the handmade doll on the chair, I do not know; but over and over I turned it, examining the burlap sewn body, button eye and the stick pins protruding from it, wondering for who or what it had been made. A quiet clearing of a throat caught me off guard and I might have jumped as the owner of the home had silently entered her home and stood looking at me with a slight smile and tilted head. I realized at that moment that my feet had moved before my brain had realized it and carried me to the chair where I sat, my mind swirling. "Your future? Do you want to see?" I pondered this a moment, and though I knew I was tempting fate in some way, I took a Candy Apple from her outstretched hand and after taking a small bite my inhibitions were gone. I looked at her and whispered, "yes." Images arose in the crystal ball before and a tale of what was to come in my life fell from her lips. I shall not share those details, as she said it was between she and I, but I ask....does a candy apple count as taking candy from strangers?

Hello everyone and Happy Tuesday! Sorry I have been away again, but I had to listen to my back and stay in bed for a few days just to get to the point of being functional again. The boxes are starting to pile up as are the notecard's wondering what I have been up too, so the only thing to do is get through it! The month of August is always full of birthdays for me, with 3 family members and some of my closest friends occupying the Leo and Virgo parts of the star chart, so later this week I will be taking off for a few days to relax with the family around the pool down the Phoenix way. Of course, before I take off I will make sure I have taken care of as many responsibilities as I can and when I return I am hoping a few days spent in the pool will help alleviate some of the back pressure so I can get back to work again! I cannot begin to explain how much this has put a cramp in my style this Summer. But, as the saying goes.... "Want to make God laugh? Make a plan!" That sums up my Summer in all reality so until my back puts me back on track, whatever plans I had for my future are on hold. Which means I will blog when I can and as often as I can and continue to provide you all with some insight into the fashion world on Second Life. I appreciate every single one of my readers and followers and love the feedback and support you all give me. I never would have imagined that a little blog about fashion on SL could become something so much more. It is a great feeling and trust me when I say that things have to be bad for me to stay away, otherwise I would probably overwhelm everyone with all of my thoughts!!!!

I have often been called an old school hippie, old soul or a mystic. Throughout my whole life wild patterns, bright colors, and wildly eclectic design styles have drawn me in and held me captive. Growing up you could always count on hearing my Mother on the piano on the weekends and some nights after work as it was her stress reliever. Over the years since I left home and went out on my own that is something I have missed in every home I have made, a piano. Granted I never learned to play but I can read music well enough to know how to plunk out the melody line of a song but just the idea of a piano has been something I have longed for throughout the years. It is often the centerpiece of our family gatherings over the holidays as we all love music and everyone either plays an instrument or sings around here. I have to share a secret today with everyone....the movie "Valley Girl" is a secret obsession and I have loved that movie since the first day it came out. I was really a little young to have been sneaking into the theater after my sister and her friend thought I had gone into some Disney flick, but I did it anyway. The stupidly catchy tune from Frank Zappa to the goofy language to the daring, spunky, eclectic way of dressing had me hooked! So you can imagine my delight and surprise to see this adorable, and aptly named "Valley Girl" ensemble from Pink Pearl Designs, an exclusive release for Apply Me! From head to toe this entire ensemble is perfect! The sunglasses sit well on top of your head and I didn't have a hard time finding a hair that looked good, which is always a plus in my book. The phone and earbuds fit well and I didn't do any adjusting, which was fantastic since the earbuds sat perfectly! The jacket and skirt are both mesh and the top comes in standard layers as well as with some of the most current appliers. Check out the new nail release from DaneMarkZ adorning my pretty little fingers! I love the "Tropicana Slant" collection as the colors are perfect for Summer and come in both silver and gold selections making them very versatile. I also had to get a close up of that popsicle and the cute sunglasses, so you knew that Valley Girls aren't as innocent as they look! I absolutely adore this look, and it brings out the brat in me, which means it quite possibly may get a lot of wear! Again, the retro, eclectic look fits in perfectly with my bohemian style, so remember that sometimes it is all in how you put an ensemble together that defines it's style, not just the pieces themselves.
Earlier today I posted about my amazing find at Vivaldi and all of its gorgeous scenery, and I promised I would share with you the ensemble I was wearing while out getting lost today. And so as promised, I present to you one of the newest outfits from Jinx!
Jinx is a new creator part of the amazing We Love to Blog group and I absolutely fell in love with this outfit the moment I unpacked it. This is truly a "Jade" kind of outfit and completely fits into my idea of Bohemian Couture. Every detail of this ensemble is perfectly designed to compliment or accent each other, making it a great addition to any closet, especially those of you with a Boho flair. The top and pants are well meshed and wonderfully textured as are the accessories that go so well with the sexy stilettos.

I knew taking off without a map or a clue wasn't a good idea, but it's not like I was known for my brilliance, at least not when it came to street smarts. So when Daddy's old Buick started to chug and cough out soot colored smoke I wasn't surprised. Who would have ever thought the bayou really got this dark long before the sun had set, I thought to myself as I trudged down the desolate dirt road. My only solace was the dim, crimson flashing in the distance that I hoped pointed me towards civilization, or at least to a pay phone.... What I found around the next bend taught me a lesson I will never forget.
Pretty sure the details of what happened that night aren't as important as what you believe might have happened in that rundown, wood and metal clapboard shanty house. The "For Rent" sign hanging over balcony might have intrigued me to stay, or it may have been the "Always Open" sign that beckoned me to peek around the corners. All I know, is that night can be summed up easily with two words.... Innocence Lost!
